20 VERSES MAKKAN REVELATION

After his first trance and vision (Surah Alaq 1-5) the prophet pbuh went to his wife Khadijah and told her to wrap him up in cloaks

6: Vigil of the night is a time when impression is more keen and speech more certain

20: Recite of the Quran that which is easy for you, establish worship, pay the poor due and lend unto Allah SWT a goodly loan. (No thought of gain) Whatever you send before you for your souls you will surely find it with Allah SWT better and greater in the recompense

Allah SWT prepares Muhammed pbuh for an important revelation. In preparation of this revelation Allah SWT loosens the strict regulation on night prayer. Muhammed pbuh is instructed to be patient for the disbelievers who will be punished in hell

As time passed the Quran continued to grow and was too long to read in the night. Consequently Allah SWT relaxes his prior command to recite the Quran at night. Muhammed pbuh is told to pray what is easy for him during the night but to continue to read in the day

The night prayer was of such importance because believers focus on prayer and separation from any distraction which was believed to make a deeper impression on the believer
