12: SURAH yusuf - joseph

111 VERSES MAKKAN REVELATION

The life story of Joseph PBUH is recounted. There is only one subject. Yaqub (Jacob) PBUH clairvoyance had a suspension and he could not see what happened to Joseph PBUH. Psychic burden is emphasised throughout. Joseph PBUH can interpret dreams. Through this Surah Allah SWT teaches a believer that whoever is true to their Islam can master the world with the strength of their character. The example of Yūsuf PBUH shows that a person of high and pure character can overcome severe circumstances and be successful

Jacob had a talent of interpreting dreams, one day his son Yusuf PBUH informs his father of his dream upon which Yusuf PBUH is told not to tell his brothers in case of any harm to him. Jacob was very loving to his son Yusuf PBUH and his brothers felt jealous of this, they wanted to somehow get rid of Joseph PBUH. At first they thought of killing Yusuf PBUH and then decided to throw him in a well. Yusuf PBUH was rescued by a caravan who sold him to the King for a small price not attaching any great value to him. The Kings wife tried to seduce Yusuf PBUH and as he ran to the door she tore his shirt from behind. The fact his shirt was ton from behind was proof that the kings wife was to blame.

Women from the city start talking about what the kings wife tried to do so she invites them for a banquet and hands them a knife and then asks Yusuf PBUH to come out  to which the women cut themselves in amazement. The Kings wife says that if Yusuf PBUH does not do as she wants he will be imprisoned. He is then sent to prison.

Whilst in prison Yusuf PBUH meets two other men and is asked to interpret their dreams. The king had a dream and asked for an interpretation of it to which the prisoner who was released mentioned Yusuf PBUH who then interprets the Kings dream which is about Egypt having a seven-year drought. To reward him, the King releases him from jail. The Kings wife testifies that Yusuf PBUH was innocent.

Yūsuf's PBUH brothers visit Egypt to get food for their family, Yusuf recognises them but they dont recognise him. Yusuf being in high authority asks them to bring their brother the next time they come and sends them back. They go home and ask Jacob PBUH for permission to take their younger brother with them so they can be given stores. When Yusuf PBUH sees his brother he informs him of his identity and then puts a cup in his brothers’ saddle bag accusing the brothers of theft. The person whose saddlebag was to have the cup would be kept prisoner. This was the only way Yusuf PBUH could keep his brother with him.

The brothers realise that it is Yusuf PBUH their brother and are asked to bring their father to him. He tells his father that his dream came true.

4: Yusuf PBUH saw 11 planets the Sun and the Moon prostrating to him

15: It was inspired in Yusuf PBUH to tell his brothers of their deed when they would know of him

33: Yusuf PBUH asked Allah SWT to keep the women away from him or he could become foolish

34: Allah SWT heard his prayer and fended off their wiles from him

51: Yusuf PBUH did not give full measure to the brothers and asked to bring their brother. When they did Yusuf PBUH told his brother I am your brother and placed the Kings cup in his bag. It was the only way he could take his brother through the Kings law.

90: The brothers said it is you Yusuf PBUH

100: Yusuf PBUH said this is the interpretation of my dream.
