19 VERSES MAKKAN REVELATION

The first of the Quran to be revealed v.1-5

Allah SWT specifies his blessings upon the humanity to learn, acquire and preserve knowledge with the help of a pen, A man does not only have the capacity to read and understand things but can also write them for future use.

In Ramadhan near Makkah located at Mountain Jabal Al Nour whilst on retreat in the cave of Hira, the prophet pbuh saw angel Gabriel who commands the prophet pbuh to ‘read’! the prophet responded ‘ But I cannot read’! Then Angel Gabriel embraced the prophet pbuh tightly and revealed to him the first lines ‘read, In the name of your Lord who created lives’ 1-5

It was revealed in 3 parts

1-5 were the first to be revealed

6-19 were revealed later. Carry on your prayer regardless of what happens around you

15-19 are about transgressors and Abu Jahl the punishment they would face if they interrupted Muhammed pbuh or a devotee during prayer

The prophet pbuh was pressed 3 times by Angel Gabriel before the prophet pbuh returned with the inspiration and with his heart beating severely. He went to his wife Khadija pbuh and said ‘Cover me’! ‘Cover me’! He was covered until his fear was over and then told Khadija pbuh everything that happened.

Khadija pbuh took Muhammed pbuh to her cousin Waraka bin Naufal and asked him to listen to the story of his nephew. Waraqa said ‘this is the same one who keeps the secrets (Angel Gabriel) whom Allah SWT sent to Musa pbuh

Waraka explained that anyone who had come with something similar to Prophet Muhammed pbuh was treated with hostility. After a few days Waraka died and the divine inspiration was also paused for a while
