The truce at Al Hudeybiyeh

The Prophet pbuh set out with 1400 muslims from Al Madinah to visit the Ka’aba. As they got near to Makkah they were warned that Qureysh had gathered their allies against them. They finally came to camp at Al Huddaybiyah below the city. The Prophet pbuh did not want war and tried to parley with Qureysh who had sworn not to let them reach the Ka’abah.

Othman ibn Affan pbuh was sent to the city as the man most likely to be received well but news broke that he had been murdered. The prophet pbuh sat under a tree and took from his comrades the oath V.18 they would fight to the death

Othman pbuh death was but a rumour and Qureysh agreed a truce, the terms were favourable to them

The Prophet pbuh would not visit Makkah that year but would the next, when the idolators would evacuate Makkah for 3 days. Fugitives from Qureysh to muslims were to be returned but not fugitives from muslims to Qureysh. There would be no hostility for 10 years. When it was war people did not meet and now people talked. No one talked of Islam but it was understood. In those 2 years many entered Al Islam as did those before. Qureysh broke the truce 2 years later in 630.

The treaty was signed through co operation of opposing forces and without bloodshed.

Those who stayed behind from the campaign of minor pilgrimage would make excuses

They would try to participate in the campaign against Khaybar that was to take place following the truce of Hudaybiyyah with the aim of taking gains of war

Muhammed pbuh and his companions would visit the Ka’aba in safety thus completing the minor pilgrimage the year later

Islam then flourished so powerfully and speedily that it would amaze muslims and others

Allegiance on the Prophet pbuh hand is like on Allah SWT hand
