19: maryam - mary

98 VERSES MAKKAN REVELATION

This Surah is revealed at a time when the opposition of Makkans turned from verbal to physical abuse. Poorer converts were allowed by the prophet pbuh to emigrate to Abyssinaia as the Christian ruler Negus was known for justice and they would not be subject to persecution for their worship of the one god. 11 men and 4 women left for Abyssinaia. This is the first hijrah. The rulers of Makkah wanted the Negus to extradite the converts because they left their religion without entering the Christian religion.

The negus against the wishes of the envoy sent for the spokesman of the refugees and questioned them of their religion. Jafar Ibin Talib cousin of the prophet pbuh answered: They were committing sin, worshipping idols until the messenger came to them and ordered them to be truthful and to restore the pledge observes ties of kinship be good neighbours abstain from things forbidden and are commanded to to worship Allah SWT only and enjoined on us prayer fasting and charity.

Ascribe nothing as partner unto Allah SWT

Our people became hostile to us and tormented us to try and bring us back to idol worshipping and those inequities. When they stopped us practising our religion we came to your land above other lands. The Negus asked if they had what the prophet pbuh brought from Allah SWT. Kaaf Ha Ya Ain Saad starts this Surah and was recited.

2: Zachariah pbuh is mentioned and the mercy of Allah SWT

3-15: Zachariah pbuh cried unto his Lord in secret for a successor who would inherit from him and the house of Jacob pbuh. He was told he would have a son whose name no one had before Yahya (John) pbuh. He was told he would not talk to anyone for 3 nights. When he came to his people he told them glorify your Lord at break of day and night.

Yahya pbuh was given wisdom when a child and he was devout and dutiful toward his parents

16: Maryam pbuh withdrew from her people to a chamber looking east

17-32: The spirit went to her in the likeness of a man. He said he is a messenger that he may bestow on Maryam pbuh a faultless son. She asked how that was possible and he said it will be. Jesus pbuh would be a revelation for mankind and a mercy

When Maryam pbuh went to her people with her son Jesus pbuhthey said she had brought an amazing thing and that sister of Aaron and her parents were good people. When Maryam pbuh pointed at Jesus pbuh in his cradle the people said they could not talk to one in their cradle. He spake: I am the slavbe of Allah SWT he have given me the scripture and appointed me a prophet pbuh.

35: When Allah SWT decreesa thing he says unto it Be! and it is

41-49: Prophet Abraham pbuh is mentioned when he said to his father why worships that which cannot hear or see. Follow me and I will lead you to a right path. His father was told not to follow the devil. His father told him to depart from him. Abraham pbuh asked forgiveness for his father because of a promise he had made and then withdrew from his father and was given Isaac pbuh and Jacob pbuh both are prophets.

51: Musa pbuh was chosen and is a Prophet pbuh

52: He was called from the right slope of the mount

53: His brother Haroon (Aaron) pbuh was bestowed on him

54: Ishamel pbuh was a messenger a Prophet pbuh

62: Those in the garden hear no idle talk only peace and they have food for morning and evening

81-82: The disbelievers have chosen other Gods but they deny their worship of them and become opponents to the disbelievers

93-95: None in the heavens and the earth but come unto Allah SWT as a slave, he knows them and numbers them with right numbering. Each one comes to Allah SWT on the day of resurrection alone.
